Institute of International Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University, Prague invites excellent candidates to participate in the application fort the grant project by Czech Academy of Sciences. We look for two doctoral or post-doctoral students willing to collaborate on the project „Memory of the Habsburg Empire in East Central Europe“ within the three years under contract. The main aim of project is a monograph in English language dealing with the memory and commemoration of Danube Monarchy in former Cisleithania during the 20th century, with primarily focus on non-Austrian parts: Czech lands, northern Italy, Slovenia and Galicia. The planed monograph focuses mainly on the following topics: memory of post-Habsburg cities (Prague, Krakow, Ljubljanja, Triest), memory of empire in textbooks, Habsburg nostalgic organizations, memory of empire in popular cultures and collapse of empire as part of memory. You will be also encouraged to develop your own projects within the grant (e. g. working on PhD. thesis, articles, organizing workshops or conferences etc.).

If the project is approved, it will start in January 2017 and last until December 2019. The net monthly salary will be 790 EUR for doctoral students and 970 EUR for post-docs. There will be some additional funding for field research, conference participation and purchase of literature. If the M. A. holders are not yet enrolled in doctoral programme, they will be encouraged to develop the own dissertation project within the given framework. Permanent residency in Prague is required.

We expect an excellent knowledge of English and at least one language from the region: German, Polish, Slovenian or Italian. The applicant has to be under the age of 35 and should held M. A. or PhD. from history or related social sciences (Central European or Germany area studies, Sociology, Anthropology or Political science).
